Although the subcompact sedan segment is considered to have aged, the entry of the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire will have given a strong indication of the still underlying potential in terms of sales. Since stepping in with a brand new version, now HONDA comes with its new version of Beast the all-new Honda
Amaze 2018 is going to come to the Indian market in next couple of months. The Dzire has been the bestselling car for the last four months by outnumbering the mainstay leader Alto with ease – as well over one lakh units were garnered. While Dzire has been the leader in that segment over the years, Honda Amaze has always played second-fiddle with the Hyundai Xcent that received a facelift earlier last year. The Amaze had long been a top-selling model for Honda alongside the City. First launched in April 2013, it took until May 2016 for Honda to bring a mild update but it did not help much in recovering the sales margin.
With the facelifted City and the new WR-V doing good numbers since their inception, it is time for Honda to raise the bar again with its forthcoming avatar of the Amaze. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming next-generation Honda Amaze:
Honda Amaze 2018 India Launch
Honda Amaze India Launch – February 2018
Reportedly codenamed the Honda 2UB, the new Honda Amaze 2018 is expected to make its first appearance at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February before going on sale in the subsequent months. Our prediction could step away by a few months too as we have not had any official information from the brand yet. We won’t be far away from seeing the test prototypes running on Indian roads revealing more details. In a similar fashion to Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Swift twins, Honda Amaze 2018 will likely be introduced ahead of the next-gen Brio small hatchback – internally codenamed ‘Honda 2UA’. However, it will only follow the likes of the CR-V diesel and the reentry of Civic during the course of H2 2018.
Since the AMT market is steadily on the rise, Honda could employ it on both petrol and diesel engines. Priced between Rs. 5.51 lakh and Rs. 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the new generation Amaze could see its asking price elevated to around Rs. 9.5 lakh for the range-topping model with added convenience and safety features.
Exterior Design Honda Cars India did give an update to Amaze in 2016 but it was not substantial. Therefore, we can expect a brand new comprehensive facelift this time around with the front end going on par with the City and WR-V. We believe it will have a rather striking appearance with sleek headlamps and edgy bodywork, unlike the existing model as subcompact cars have indeed crafted to become more stylish in recent times. The second generation Amaze has been developed by the brand’s Thailand R & D division with inputs from engineers back at our local HQ. The most notable exterior changes would likely be LED Daytime Running Lights, LED tail lamps, revised bumpers, etc.
INTERIOR DESIGN The Japanese auto major will be trying to improve the interior bits of the upcoming Amaze and make it a desirable VFM product with volume aspirations in mind. It will sit under the sub-four-metre sedan category and is expected to have a thoroughly revised entertainment system as well as upgrades to the features list. The fact that Maruti Dzire currently offers a wide range of premium features and the top-end models are selling well, we can expect Honda to have a dig at the same band of customers with increased equipment level. The Honda Amaze 2018 will likely make its way into dealerships by the second quarter of next year.
ENGINE SPECS Engine 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol / 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel Power 87 bhp at 6,000 rpm / 99 bhp at 3,600 rpm Torque 109 Nm at 4,500 rpm / 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm Transmission five-speed manual or CVT / five-speed manual only The upcoming Honda Amaze will indeed be manufactured at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan which will likely act as the global hub for engine supply. As for the powertrain, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit is said to get punchier by producing additional horsepower. Currently, it makes 100 PS and is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol could be carried forward without any changes to the performance numbers and has CVT as an option.
Honda Amaze 2018 Mileage 26 kmpl for diesel and 19 kmpl for petrol The power units could be tuned to deliver more fuel economy as well over the current claimed figures of 25.8 kmpl for diesel manual, 17.8 kmpl for petrol manual and 18.1 kmpl for petrol CVT.
